Position: Associate Producer

Project: The Civil Case - Documentary Feature Film

Location: Chattanooga, TN

Type: Contract

Civil Productions LLC is seeking an Associate Producer with strong connections to Chattanooga’s 9th Street/MLK Blvd communities, who has excellent written and verbal skills, and who can persevere through the challenges of making a feature length documentary. Filmmaking experience is not required though helpful. We are most interested in applicants with a background in fully realized project development of any kind. Filmmaking requires a significant amount of skills and talents unrelated to cameras, lights, or editing software to be taken from an idea to a finished film.

About the Film

In April, 1980, three Klansmen went on a shooting spree in Chattanooga, Tennessee, injuring five black women. As usual, the criminal courts treated the Klansmen lightly. But the women fought back in a new way—winning a lasting victory against the Klan and setting important legal precedent for today’s civil court battles. Our film will use interviews, archival media, and present day examples of how this strategy is still being used to honor this forgotten piece of American Civil Rights history.

There are two positions available for Associate Producer. We are splitting responsibilities amongst two APs so not all of the desired skills and experience will be needed by the successful candidates. The role may change from person to person depending on their background. Due to the historic nature of the project we require thorough research to connect with members of the community where these events took place and to seek out all of the archival materials available. We would also encourage anyone to apply with a strong background in journalism, research, community engagement, or project development. The project is currently in pre-production and is scheduled for release in April of 2022.

  • Previous role on a documentary project (short or long form)
