Position: Internships

Project: The Civil Case - Documentary Feature Film

Location: Chattanooga, TN

Type: Paid Internship

Civil Productions LLC is seeking four Interns to join our team and help produce a feature length documentary based in Chattanooga, TN. Internships will cover roughly 100 hours of work with our team of producers, researchers, and the film’s director. Duties will include a variety of tasks to ensure a smooth production process. Two of the positions are research based and will favor individuals with a research background. Two of the positions are production positions which will favor those with video or film production background and training.

We are a small team, as is often the case with documentaries, but this will allow behind the scenes access to many of the aspects of independent documentary filmmaking. Applicants will ideally be studying Film, Journalism, Writing, or History, but this is not a requirement.

About the Film

In April, 1980, three Klansmen went on a shooting spree in Chattanooga, Tennessee, injuring five black women. As usual, the criminal courts treated the Klansmen lightly. But the women fought back in a new way—winning a lasting victory against the Klan and setting important legal precedent for today’s civil court battles. Our film will use interviews, archival media, and present day examples of how this strategy is still being used to honor this forgotten piece of American Civil Rights history.
